I don’t know about all y’all, but I love Valentine’s Day! Seriously, what’s not to love? Pink, chocolate, super cute Valentine cards and gifts, an excuse to guilt trip someone into watching the kids so Andrew and I can go and see a movie that doesn’t feature animated talking animals. Deep sigh, perfection.
Last year Valentine’s Day was rather hectic. Logan was just getting out of the hospital after nearly three weeks and our move from northern Virginia to the New River Valley was finally underway after being postponed during the hospital stay. This year we’re moving again, back up to northern Virginia, but I intend to be completely moved and back to work and the kids starting daycare by the second week of February. Which means I can actually celebrate with cupcakes and stickers and crafts and Valentine’s Day Greeting Cards for every kid at daycare! It’s embarrassing how excited I am, but Tinyprint’s Valentine’s Day pinboard is just getting me even more pumped. Oh yeah, Tinyprints is on Pinterest. I bet I just made your life more awesome.
Picking out cards for the kids at daycare is definitely going to be the hardest part. I mean, how ridiculously adorable are all these cards from Tinyprints? How to choose just one? Or three? Or five?

Saturday was New Year’s Eve and Andrew and the kids and I celebrated it with style. Sort of. I kind of forgot about New Year’s even until about 7 o’clock on Saturday. The kids and I ran out to the grocery store and picked up pizza, shrimp and mini eclairs from the freezer section. I also picked up a $5 bottle of peach champagne for Andrew and I. The classiness doesn’t stop there, folks. When Andrew and I moved into this place last March we set the box of champagne flutes, wine glasses and pilsner glasses aside to be unpacked later. The box has never been seen since, and we can’t just go get more because Andrew is absolutely sure the box is here somewhere and he insists he’s going to find it so don’t bother to get more they’re here. Somewhere. So Andrew and I toasted 2012 with $5 peach champagne in drinking glasses1. It’s called style, we has it.
When I say Andrew and I toasted 2012 I actually mean I toasted 11:45 and passed out and tried to physically assault Andrew when he woke me up for the ball drop and maybe, possibly a New Year’s kiss. Claire and Logan were super stoked to stay up past their bed time. Sort of. Logan made it about an hour after his bedtime and was out cold by 9pm. Claire lasted a bit longer but was down by 10. Bunch of lightweights, at least I made it past 11, and with 3 glasses2 of booze to boot. I bet they wouldn’t have made it past 8:30 if they had started drinking when Andrew and I did.
I’m not that big on resolutions, but I like how refreshing and rejuvenating a new year can be. In 2012 I hope to:
- Drink more water, drink less Dr. Pepper
- Get more organized, especially my desk
- Create more stuff, share it on this blog
What are some of your intentions for 2012?
- Even more amusing is that we have had champagne, beer and wine in this house many times since moving here. With guests. [↩]
- Drinking glasses are much larger than champagne flutes, learn from my mistakes. [↩]

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to everyone! We’re at Andrew’s parents’ house for the holiday weekend. Tomorrow we’re going shopping for Christmas dinner stuffs and making some fun crafts with the kiddos. I’m pretty sure I’m more excited for the kids to unwrap their gifts than they are, but all they really know is that there were toys in the house they weren’t allowed to play with that mysteriously disappeared and now there are things covered in paper and ribbon and bows that would be fun to tear apart but they can’t play with those either.
Hope everyone has a merry and bright winter season and a happy New Year!

I love making candy cane bark, but this year I wanted to make something super quick and easy. I decided to use almond bark instead of chocolate, and I’ve been pretty happy with the results.

Ingredients
- 1 box of 12 candy canes
- 1 lb of almond bark, two different flavors (I used a 1/2 lb of chocolate and a 1/2 lb of vanilla)
