July Ipsy Bag Review

BeFine Food Skin Care

I won’t be using this product because I really don’t like smell of cocoa, though I totes love to eat it. According to the Ipsy site the BeFine line of products are all vegan and cruelty free and have something to do with juicing? Like instead of consuming “super foods” you slather them on yourself? Sounds like hippy nonsense to me.

Mellow Cosmetics Baked Eyeshadow in Plum

I got more eyeshadow this month which does worry me slightly. My older sister, who literally has a stack a foot high in her bathroom closet of all of her old Ipsy bags, told me she recently cancelled her subscription because she just got tired of getting the same products over and over. I have seen her tub full of eyeshadows and lip products, and while it’s nice to have a lot of different shades it’s also nice to be able to try new items. That’s the main reason I use sub boxes. I can buy the same things over and over all by myself, I want a monthly box full of new and interesting things I wouldn’t know about or think to buy to encourage me to try new stuff and experiment.

But I digress, and I should wait a few more bags before I decide I’m getting the same products again and again. This month’s eyeshadow was Mellow Cosmetics Baked Eyeshadow in Plum. This is definitely more my color than June’s Urban Decay eyeshadow in Fireball, but it’s not as sparkly. That’s not to say this isn’t a good eyeshadow. It actually really is. It’s highly pigmented and goes on easily – though some of that might have to do with my new MODA brushes I ordered after getting the crease/smudge brush last month – and it stays on all day. It’s definitely a nice everyday color and it’s workplace friendly.

Too Faced Hangover Replenishing Face Primer

I often punish myself by staying up to the wee hours of the night binging my shows1 and it does at times show on my face. This primer is supposed to by very hydrating and not only make your face look like you totes got a full night’s sleep but even give you that youthful dew-y look only those under 21 can naturally accomplish. I can’t say the sample size I got in my Ipsy bag was really any better than the primer I already use, but I did love the smell of it and it was very smooth. It’s says it can do double duty as a moisturizer and primer but I think people with dryer skin might not find that to be true. My face is normal/oily, with my t-zone of course being oilier, and it didn’t cause any issues with oil production. I almost never wear full face makeup so I probably wouldn’t use this anymore often than my regular primer, but if it can pull its weight as a moisturizer I’d consider picking up a full size tube.

ModelCo POWERLASH Black Mascara

Meh. It’s black mascara. I didn’t find anything about it to be too spectacular. Claims that it’s flake-free so you won’t get raccoon eye but this Texas heat proved that wrong. I wore it with my Mellow eyeshadow, and my daughter’s super cool glittery butterfly hair clips with which she so thoughtfully adorned my head, out to dinner and by the time I got home I was worried my husband would chase me off the back porch with a broom. A full size tube is $20 and it doesn’t even come close to my love, Blinc mascara, which is in the same price range. I like Blinc because it actually doesn’t cause any under eye smudging because of some sort of magic/tubing action, and I’ve tested Blinc quite a bit down here in this 100+° heat we’ve been getting in Houston. I also didn’t like the wand. Blinc has definitely spoiled me with their curved wand that helps to catch each lash with one swipe. I guess if you’re looking for a black mascara that doesn’t seem to work much better than a drugstore brand for 5x the cost, here’s your buy.

Luxie Beauty Luxie Rose Gold Small Angle Eye Brush 215

This brush is gorg and that alone makes me like it a lot because 87% of my decisions are made based entirely on whether or not something is pretty. But I just bought a bunch of MODA brushes, including a small angle eye brush that I don’t even know if I know how to use. I’m thinking about buying the entire set from Luxie because gosh they’re so pretty and they’d look great on my counter and I can keep my MODA ones for travelling and stuff. Ugh, if only Ipsy had sent me this brush last month! Now I’m hesitating about buying the Luxie brushes because what if I get another brush next month and it’s even prettier? This sort of pre-buyer’s remorse actually happens to me a lot.
