One of the classes I’m taking this semester is a photography class. I had enrolled in a film photography class, but there wasn’t enough interest and the class was cancelled. Of course I didn’t find this out until last Wednesday right before I was getting ready to leave for the class. I wanted to check online to make sure I had the room number right and realized I’d been dropped. Of course the only other photography class that could fit into my schedule was a Tuesday class, so I’d already missed the first class. Awesome, not.

So last night I went to class, I didn’t have the 30 landscape photos that were assigned the first class or my textbook (because as I found out when I got there I had the Introduction to Photography textbook, where as this class was Introduction to Digital Photography). My professor is really awesome and she said that was fine, to take my textbook back to the bookstore to get it exchanged and bring my 30 landscape shots in next week with my 30 light/shadow shots.

We did an overview of importing, sorting and rating our photos in Bridge. I sat quietly and nodded along, as the professor pointed out to those of us she could tell were already very familiar with the program the course is an introduction. I helped the woman sitting next to me. She was older and had a great D90 but little computer skills. Apparently she has been a photographer for years and was just now moving away from film and into the digital era. She showed me some of her film work and it was amazing.

Our lab hours for our class are 5-10, but actual class is only 6-9 at the latest. I showed up at 5 because I wasn’t there the first day to know that, but that’s okay because class was short and we were out at 7:45.

I’m hoping to get down into the Catawba Valley this weekend to get some great landscape shots, maybe even up to the Blue Ridge Parkway. I have no idea what I’m going to do for light/shadows, give me some recommendations!

P.S.: My Done pinboard has grown to 17 pins. Score!
